My primary school years were blissfully jolly, but from the ages of 11 to 18, I was a typical angst-ridden teenager. Safe? Definitely. Shy? Yes. Scared? A little. Bored? Absolutely. As a result, my tender teenage years spawned a million dreams, most of which got lost over two foggy decades as drunk student, stressed-out executive and manic, self-employed mother of two.
But wait. I'm back. In the place where all my teenage dreams took shape. One of my reasons for leaving Cheshire - lovely as Cheshire is - was that I had lost sight of my dreams. Some people dismiss daydreams as mere fantasy; I think they're a telescope through which you can see the twinkling of your hopes, your spirit.
The north west is abnormally cloudy most of the time, so I never really saw the stars. Back down south, the stars come out all the time.
I love this site, reminds me of my schooldays & dreams! I have roots in Cheshire!
ReplyDeleteGBS, what a lovely turn of phrase. Will try to remember it. 'Daydreams as a telescope'. Aaaaahhhh.
ReplyDeleteGod you make me feel miserable up here in cloudy Cheshire. You are right though, dreams do get lost in the fog of time. I can't even remember mine anymore, or even if I had any. Actually, I have been feeling the sun on these growing old bones the last few days, and it's amazing the difference weather makes to how you feel. You're lucky with the stars - make the most of them. Haven't set up my blog name yet but it shall be Woman on the Edge. xx
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to keep daydreams alive - even though mortgages, kids, age etc do all they can to boot them into the gutter.
ReplyDeleteOf course, Smartypants Wilde said:
"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars."
Mind you, it didn't turn out all that well for Oscar.
I live in that same "safe and pleasant" town here in Texas. And yes, it's VERY boring. Especially now that i'm single again. After 41/2 years, I STILL haven't been on a date yet...I don't fancy going to the bars any longer to find my mate...anyway, I also, am a dreamer. Good to know theres others out there too;)
