Hair Wars

How honey-and-lemonly comforting of you to send such nice sympathy cards after my last post. At huge risk of looking like I'm milking it, I'll share just one more sob-story. I was in the lounge this evening, standing by the door. I suddenly sneezed, and at exactly the same second as my head flew forward with full AAA-CHOOOOO force, Big G opened the door to say "dinner's ready". Head, door, big throbbing bump, ouch.

But injuries aside, I heard a great saying the other day: "There is only one hair-style that suits you ... now just get on with it". What a relief. Over the last 25 years, ever since I was old enough to go to the hairdressers by myself, I reckon I've had 50 hair styles. 20's bob, straight, wavy, scary flat-top, long and layered, elvis quiff, non-descript, shaggy, boyish, long down to my waist. And the winner in my Hair Hall of Shame was that hideous day in the 80's when some moron layered my hair to within an inch of its life and drenched it in gel. She then made me hold my head upside down while she blow-dried my hair upwards and outwards until it was the size of Northumberland.

I'm weathering a bad-hair phase at the moment. But now I know there is only one style that suits me, I'm going to let my hair grow long again, wear it in a pony-tail most of the time, and never think about changing it ever again. Phew.

  2. Hair is so personal. Do what you feel is right! Like you, I have had a few styles. And colours. Oh to be a bloke and just shave it! (Without comment from others!)

Hope you are all feeling better and the bump on the head heals soon.

  3. You're right about the hair style. When I look back on my life, I realize that I am now wearing my hair in the same way that I pretty much wore it in my late teens and I am 54 now. God, how dull can you get!

It seems to suit me, though, and I have had long hair, but would look ridiculous with it now. Sort of like a greasy fishwife on the market.

I do have bad hair days when it is just washed and won't do what I want it to. I hairspray it to death until it stays in place, but it is a foul habit.

  4. Yes, but will the one style that suits you cover the lump on your head?

  5. I laughed out loud about your injury. Sorry - but I thought that sort of thing only happened to me!
My little one sneezed so ferociously the other day that he banged his head on the kitchen table. I was able to surpress my laughter at that point. He was crying quite loudly so he probably wouldn't have heard it, but you know...

  6. My problem is that I want my hair to look like Lulu's. The main trouble is I am not blond, my hair wants to be curly, it has a bit of pube-like frizz in the damp weather and it tends to go a bit like a bowl when too long.

Apart from that Lulu and I are dead ringers for each other.

  7. I am seriously hair obsessed .. seriously .. I am currently bobbed .. but with 'edge' .. I am not sure what it means but I am thinking I want it to grow FASTER .. I am sure your plan to grow it into a pony tail is a good one .. and once you achieve this, you'll see a cut you wish you had and it starts all over .. :-D

  8. Oh weren't the 80's fun? So much time spent blow drying, curling, and hanging upside down to get the coveted big hair look just right. I never really got the hang of it until the late 80's and by then the look was almost over.

Sorry about your sneezing collision with the door. Ouch!

  10. I've had every hairstyle under the sun during my life time, but I think that short hair generally suits older ladies, so will probably go with that now.
BTW, you have been tagged! Please visit me for details.

  11. This made me laugh so much! I don't know anyone who still uses the term moron and it was just as if I was sitting next to you having a cup of tea and putting the worlds to rights! The nearest I ever got to a 'cool' hairdo was a Purdy - oh my god, how unfashionable. I await the next hairstyle decision - if I know you it will be long, short, long, short ... but who will do it now you've left the cloudy north and David curly top?
