Life's Punctuation Marks

Everyone was away except me. Big G was abroad and the children were at my sister's. I kept hearing noises and imagining somebody shifty was trying to open the back door. I microwaved an odd but surprisingly tasty combination of leftovers, poured a glass of wine and soaked in an almost unbearably hot bath. It was so quiet. Then I plodded downstairs and slumped on the sofa.

Having zero tolerance to most mainstream TV, because frankly, it's shite, I amused myself by hopping through the music channels. It's one of the joys of solitude, channel hopping in peace. Q is by far the best: I was treated to Placebo, David Bowie, REM, Radiohead, Alanis Morissette, and then Scar Tissue by the Red Hot Chili Peppers came on.

Ah yes, scar tissue. The reason I'm sore and resting and should not lift heavy things. Scars are Life's Punctuation Marks. Every time you collect a new scar (emotional or physical?!) you slow life down to a stop, pause, breathe in and think for a little while.

Enjoy your music....... I am not well up with the ones you mention but Scar Tissue must have seemed significant to you!

  5. My daughter just had an op, she asked me if you can die of boredom. I told her to read Terry Waite's autobiog. as he survived 5 years in solitary confinement I thought she could hack 2 weeks at home. Not very sympathetic of me, but she did laugh - only it hurts when she laughs... Get well soon.

  6. Get well soon.....I have not dropped by for a while, just read the last four or five posts, lovely work. The very essence of the small but significant joys of family life and parenthood, great work.

  10. Hi GBS!
I hope you're o.k. and recovering well! take it easy! I know how difficult that can be to just have to rest when a thousand things are going through your mind and also sitting thinking of everything that needs to be done... I'm a terrible recuperator!
I love all those artists you mentioned and also love "Scar Tissue"! - in fact I love every single track on The Red Hot Chilli Pepers "Californication" CD!
Big Hug and rest well! X

  11. Hi GBS - only just caught up with you after too long. Sorry to hear you've been under the knife and hope you're recovering well.

Interested to hear that you are weary of GBS - you had no reason to be when you write so well and everyone loves you! Maybe it's just that you are settled now into your new life and feel that the original persona is no longer you? Gosh, I don't know, it's late and I'm rambling! I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on this. It's intriguing psychology.
Take care and let us know when you reappear in a new guise!
    x
